Geronimo Cristobal, Jr.


Geronimo Cristobal is a Filipino writer, painter, art critic, and former curator. His writings have appeared in books and various national dailies.

Early life and education

Cristobal was born in 1986 in Metro Manila, Philippines. He graduated from the Creative Writing program of the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2011. He also has an MFA in Art Criticism and Writing from the School of Visual Arts, New York City.

Work

Cristobal's first book, Collected Encounters, was published in 2011 by CSCVA. The essays in the book revolve around a selection of recent works by artists Chema Alvargonzales, Gino Bueza, Frankie Callaghan, Francis Commeyne, Maria Cruz, Marina Cruz, Lizza May David, Phillip Hohenwarter, Oswaldo Ruiz, Gerardo Tan, Rodel Tapaya and Kim Westerström. The book was translated into German by Venezuelan museum curator Indira Aguilera Kohl and designed by David Cano Leal. Cristobal's second book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Paintings after Compositions at the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences in Manila.From 2011 to 2015, Cristobal was the curator of the Light and Space Contemporary, an art gallery in Quezon City owned by sculptor Jason Tecson. In 2018, he was a Darmasiswa Scholar at the Institute of Indonesian Arts and Culture, Bandung
